American Airlines is making big improvements for their international travelers. The American Airlines passport scanner app makes traveling through the airport faster and easier.
The American Airlines mobile app can now scan your passport chip and eliminate the need to have an American agent scan your passport at the airport. Travelers start by entering some basic passport information. The smartphone can then scan the chip on the back page of the passport. The app uses near field communication (NFC) technology to securely transmit passport information.
You’ll still need to show your passport at the airport during boarding, but it won’t have to be open and scanned.
This new offering is the first of its kind but we expect more airlines to follow suit. The smart technology is a great way to make the travel experience easier and faster. But you’ll still need to make sure your passport is valid for international travel.
